Why does Articulate Storyline 360 continue have very limited number of inbuilt variables?

Jun 19, 2018

Articulate has a major gap that I notice as a developer who has experience in Lectora/Flash development. Many simple features that make learner experience of completion status, jump navigation smooth and easy to set up are missing in even in the latest version of Storyline.

These are:

1. Distinct variables for lastVisited Slide and previous slideNo. This gap makes it necessary for the developer to go and actually link specific slides by name to allow a consistent experience in JUMP mode navigation. When a course is more than 30 slides long - it becomes an arduous task. Not to mention the lack of flexibility while developing and making changes.

2. No inbuilt variables for tracking slide number and total and total number of slides in a package. Makes simple tasks like updating slide number status and progress bars an unnecessary development challenge.

A rapid e-learning development tool is supposed to take care of these basic learning interface requirements.
