Why no copy and paste to clipboard?

I just noticed that if you copy say, a picture or text from a project in Storlyline, you can't paste it into a powerpoint, word doc, email etc. I can copy from a powerpoint and paste into storyline, but vice versa it doesn't work. I can copy from one storyline page and paste to another page withiin storyline, but the content just doesn't seem to paste to the main clipboard. Anyway around this?

I need to create a powerpoint version of a training for countries that don't yet have an LMS, so was hoping to copy and paste page by page. If i export as a word doc, it's only images, so it's a bit useless in the sense that it's not editable content (i. e for translation).

Any workarounds will be great, i can see this being a nightmare otherwise.

Thanks,

Hi Ray,

Although you may be able to copy and paste objects from external programs into Storyline, the reverse is not always true.

You can copy and paste text from Storyline into other programs, but you won’t be able to copy and paste images, shapes, characters, etc. from Storyline into other programs.

If you need to re-use an object in another program, right-click it, and select Save as Picture. Then import the saved picture into the external program.

Hope that helps!

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for the help. I tried it with text, and the way i found that worked was to click within the text, ctrl + a to highlight all text, then ctrl + c to copy and that allowed me to paste into word, powerpoint etc. By clicking the text box alone, it would not allow the copy and paste, you would need to actually highlight all of the text. Thanks for the tip on the save as picture option. It's going to be a bit of a pain doing it this way as i have a lot of content to get through. Can this be suggested into a new version update, to allow copying content from storyline (text and objects) in a more open way?

Thanks,

Ray

Hi Lynn,

Sorry that you're feeling frustrated, I assume by the lack of a clipboard c/p functionality within Storyline from other programs? If that's what you're looking to see I'd suggest that you also share your thoughts on it in the form of a feature request or offer more specifics here about the problems we'd be happy to offer some additional thoughts.

Hi Stephen,

Sorry to say that this behavior hasn't changed yet, but you could always look at exporting out images or similar from the published output or taking a screen grab but not a way to copy and paste it into Powerpoint or Word. You can share your thoughts on this as a feature request as well.

Hi Ashley,

Neither suggested solution is viable:

Reconstructing the 150 slides from scratch is highly time consuming and prone to human error; screen captures aren’t editable for use elsewhere.

I have submitted a request to the link you have provided. Though, it is clear from this thread that this concern has existed for some time. When can we expect a solution?

Cheers, Stephen

Hi Jon,

Nope - just wasn't sure what element you were referring too as the last few answers in this discussion were able exporting data.

I don't have an information in regards to an update of Storyline 2, but since Storyline 360 is a new version of the product it does have some new features that are not available within Storyline 2.

Hey, Jon!  We will continue to support (including releasing updated versions of) Storyline 2.  We can't offer what is on the timeline for Storyline 2 in terms of future fixes and additions, but we are still listening to your wants and needs.  When updates are released, we'll be sure to let you know what has changed here in the forums and in our release notes!

Hi Jon,

In addition to Crystal's confirmation of continued support for Storyline 2 I also wanted to confirm that the copy/paste functionality you're referring too is limited to not being able to copy content from Storyline (such as images) and paste it in another application (such as Powerpoint or Word).

You can copy text or images within Storyline to move them to other slides, layers, etc. You could also copy text from a Word document and paste it into Storyline and vice a versa as another example.  The only items that can't be copied out of Storyline into another application are graphical elements (images, shapes, characters, buttons, etc.)  I don't see a change to that within Storyline 360.

Hi Jon,

Thanks again for sticking with me here - I took a look and did a little test within Storyline 2 and Storyline 360. I recorded a video of it within Peek and posted it here to Articulate Review.

I'm still not seeing what you're describing as working in Storyline 360, but as Alyssa mentioned a feature request is the way to go for sure.
