When I add the Wipe animation to an object or text in Storyline it is not working and looks more like the fade animation. Anyone know how to correct this?
Thanks for reaching out. Are you seeing this in Storyline 360?
If so, can you tell me a bit more about how you're viewing the content? What browser are you using? Are you seeing this on a mobile device? There are some known inconsistencies between the browsers and how they handle different animations such as the wipe animation. You can see a bit more about that here.
Wipe doesn't smoothly bring in text. It is a bug, IMO. in 360. If you have a three line bullet, it brings in the middle line first then the first line come in and it is very glitchy. not smooth at all. I see it in Chrome, Safari, and Firefox.
I found that we have documented an issue where the Wipe animation applied by paragraph does not behave as expected in HTML5. The only workarounds I can suggest for now would be to use the Flash output, or use a different animation.
This issue is in the hands of our QA team, and we’ll be sure to post any updates here in this discussion! You’ll receive an email notification because you are now subscribed to this post.
Nothing new yet, Colin. We're seeing the issue when the wipe animation is applied by paragraph in HTML5,but it works fine when it's applied as one object. Here's an example that shows the difference in the two, and we're not seeing this issue at all in Flash.
We’re still working on this bug, and I'm sorry if it's causing you headaches. We’ll definitely let you know when we know more!
Any update on this? I have also recently moved from SL2 to 360. I had applied wipe animation (without knowing that there is an issue) to most of my objects (single objects like lines and arrows) and it doesnt seem to work when I publish it. It will be a lot of rework if I have to remove those animations. :(
This is probably related to masking animations not being supported in certain browsers such as IE and Edge rather than the bug for wipe by paragraph. Not sure if Articulate can fix a browser issue like that.
Speaking for myself, I only use Chrome or Firefox and Chrome is where I saw the issue. I am not seeing the issue in Storyline 2 in another project I am working on.
I think there are two problems here one is paragraph level animations using wipe not working correctly (out of order) and wipe animations on single objects not working in specific browsers (those that do not support masking).
Yes Storyline 2 did not have this issue. I realized, as pointed out by others, this issue does not show when I play the Flash file. It is only with the html and html5 files, and happening in both IE and Chrome. But since I am going to publish it to LMS, it will pick up the html file. In Storyline 2, there was an option to disable a file from getting published to html5 (by clearing a checkbox), which is not the case with 360.
Hi Nandita, in Storyline 360 you have the option to publish as flash only, html5 only, html 5 with flash backup and flash with html 5 as backup so you should be able to pick and option that does not have html 5 if that is what you need.
Hi Nandita! It sounds like you used the wipe animation on shapes, is that correct? We're seeing that masking animations don't work in Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge. You also mentioned that you saw the issue in Chrome, which I wouldn't expect. Could I take a closer look at your file to double check that there isn't something else going on here?
Also, Storyline 360 gives you lots of publishing format options. Check out this tutorial for steps on how to remove HTML5 from the output.
I'm using wipe animations on some images that suddenly no longer work (after the last update to 360 v3.8.13281.0) in the Articulate player (they work fine in html5)... haven't tested in flash
Thanks for bringing this to our attention here. We very recently made a shift from using Flash to using HTML5 in the published for CD output in Storyline 360. The behavior you're seeing is what we describe in this article Leslie shared above.
I apologize for the confusion- I reached out to my team and we'll get that documentation updated to include the recent change in the CD output.
Thanks again for letting us know, and I'm sorry for any hangups this caused!
I was having the same issues with wipe, wheel and split animations on objects. My company only uses IE browser so using Chrome was not an option. If I publish in 'FLASH only', these animations work. If I publish in any other format such as 'HTML' or 'HTML with FLASH backup', the animations don't work.
Hey again Brian- I just wanted to pop in with an update to our discussion earlier.
We've updated our documentation here to include the published for CD output as well. Since the CD output relies on Internet Explorer, that's why you'll see the same behavior there.

I am seeing this as well. Noticed in on iPad using Safari and also on Surface Pro 3 using Edge.
course published in Storyline 360.
Hi Nancy,
Here are a few articles on masking animations in Safari and Edge:
I noticed it works on Google Chrome but not Explorer.

Ugh, my go to is wipe. I guess it is back to using fly in with masks just like in SL1.

Hi Alyssa,
Any update on this?
As I have just moved from SL2 to 360 and a lot of my slides use the text wipe animations
Thanks

Hi Nancy,
I wasnt aware of this. I need to explore more I guess. Thanks I will look for these options. :)
It is kind of hidden. On the publish screen, click the Formats link and you will see the options. Just move the slider to the one you want to use.

Thank you :)
I have a lot of workflows to describe and a wipe animation would be extremely valuable.
If fly in could have the option from originating from the object this could be a workaround.
I understand Lara. Seems those masking animations have some browser limitations at this time:

I've attached a test file of an animated jpg
