Working with Slide Master

Dec 02, 2020

Hello everybody. I still have problems to work with the slide master. The project below was imported from powerpoint. While importing, storyline created a lot of  master slides. The relevant one in my project ist number 2. I would like to eliminate all master slides, which are not used. Secound I would like to make a set of buttons  (you can find them at the bottom of Master slide 2) valid for all slides below. Unfortunately it doesn't work.

Would appreciate some help.

Hi, Oswald,

There's a Delete button to remove any Master Slide or Layout. However, that button will be disabled if a layout is being used by any slide. If so, you have to find that slide and apply a different layout before you can delete the unwanted one.

I'm not sure what the issue is with the Master navigation buttons. There's something weird about that entire Master. I see objects on the selected layout on the right, but most of the Layout thumbnails look blank.

Plus, all those "Jump to the next slide when timeline ends" triggers interfere with testing.

And all the Slide Properties are set to advance automatically:

In short, the file needs a lot of clean-up work.

You can only remove the extra master slides if the children are not being used. In your project, you are using slides from Master 2 & 3.

To remove a Master: Right-click on the Parent Master slide with the number next to it (1, 2, 3) > Delete Master.

Your custom navigations buttons work, just not on the Welcome slide. That is because this slide is using a child in Master 2 that is not set up the same as the others. For some reason, on this slide, the navigation buttons did not carry down from the parent, and it looks like you have placed the navigation buttons on the slide without assigning a trigger to them. To fix this you can move the image assets (minus the navigation buttons) to another slide that already has the nav button, then change the apply layout. Or you can assign the next, prev, triggers to the buttons on the child in the master.

Hi again, Oswald,

FYI: In my experience, Storyline gets "confused" (to put it politely) whenever I try to delete multiple Master slides or layouts. I've found that just closing the Master View and then re-opening it usually lets me continue.

Best wishes for continued success.
