Working with Triggers and Layers

Jul 27, 2015

Hi everyone and I hope your Monday morning is off to a great start.

I recently posted on an old discussion about layers and triggers. I did not see any response, so I thought it might be because it is such an old topic.  Here I am again re-posting and hoping to understand why I am having such an issue.  Hopefully, I can explain easily enough what I am referring to...

I have a slide with a diagram of questions we think a new hire would ask when joining the company.  Each module will have actual learning objectives built around the questions.  In the welcome scene we bring up the slide as a lightbox displaying all of the questions.

The slide has two layers at this point but will have at least five layers as we build out our modules.  The base layer has a text variable assigned giving it a value of "first".  The trigger used to launch the lightbox has a condition that references the variable assigned to the base layer equal to the value "first".

The second layer has check boxes added to the questions answered in the current module. It has an assigned variable with the name "second".

I have a trigger on the object of another slide that opens the re-cap slide from which the lightbox is launched when the timeline starts.  The trigger  opens the lightboxed slide with the condition that the LOLayerComplete is set to "Second".  That seems logical and simple, but does not open to the second layer.

I have tried this various ways checking the discussions on similar topics but am missing something.  I need to show progress tomorrow morning and am starting to be concerned.  Please help.

Hi Kay,

Thanks for reaching out here and sorry if we missed your other post, sometimes the older ones don't bubble to the top as expected.

Without seeing your file and how all the elements are set up, it's difficult to say - but have you looked into the trigger order and the slide's revisiting properties?  Both of those could be impacting how the slide is reset or if the triggers are executing in the correct order.

If you'd like you can share the .story file here using the "Add Attachment" button and we can take a look. Let us know which slides or strip it down to just a few slides.

Kay;

I am just jumping back onto the forums after being away for a while finishing a masters.

I enjoy troubleshooting things like triggers, etc so am happy to help you with this.  Unfortunately I am not really getting a sense of what it is you are trying to accomplish here.  I have your project open and if you would like to message me with step by step what should happen I can try to help.  Don't worry about telling me what trigger does what, just what should it look like to the user.

I hope I can help you.  I know what it is like to be under time crunches.

Tim,

Thanks for getting back to me. The slide called "learning Objectives" is
lightboxed based on a trigger placed against an object on the Intro slide.
I decided to add a layer to it with checkmarks on the questions completed in
the first module. When the user gets to the recap slide, the learning
object slide is lightboxed again and should show the second layer with the
checkmarks.

Best regards,

Kay
