Wrong size in screen recordings???
Jan 30, 2017
Hi,
if I do a screen recording at size 1038x630 (Select a window), the inserted video has a original size of 1152x640 but is automatically downscaled to correct size and has a width of 99% and a height of 98%. If I export the video the size is 1152x640.
In a screen recording with a size of 720x405 the original size in SL2 is 720x416.
The same happens in SL 360.
So, this makes it difficult to use screen recording i SL and I have to use Captivate instead :P.
Please comment on this. Thanks in advance.

If your project is primarily screen recordings, I would suggest changing the story size to a matching resolution to what your screen recordings will be before you do all your recordings.
Thanks for your advice, but that doesn't solve anything. If I record one size I want to keep that size when inserting the video in SL. Otherwise the videos are blurry.
Hi there Fredrik,
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I tested this in a new file and saw the same behavior you're seeing. I'm going to continue to look into this, but in the mean time, can you please share a bit more about why the size difference of the exported file makes it difficult for you to use Storyline? Are you seeing bluriness in the video embedded on the slide, in the exported video, or both?
Thanks for your reply. The video will be sharpest if it appears in the resolution it has been recorded, not reduced or increased in size. And sometimes I want to export the video for editing in other software and take it back into SL. It is important that the video maintains the size I choose when record. To me it seems like a strange bug that SL changes the size when I insert the video.
:)
Thanks, Fredrik. That helps put it into context. I'm going to test a few more scenarios and get back with you once I have more information to share. :)
Hi Fredrik, thanks for your patience. I was able to reproduce this behavior in various scenarios, and each time the video exported with larger dimensions than the original. I'm really glad you brought this to our attention, as I don't see that it's been otherwise reported to our QA team. I'm going to give them this information so that they can investigate if there's a fix. We'll be sure to keep you posted in this discussion with any information we can share on it!
I just went back to review your original post and noticed you mentioned this also happens with Storyline 360. I am not seeing the issue on my end; would you be able to record a Peek of what you're seeing on your end? Also, you'll want to make sure that you're on the latest update.
Hi Frederik,
Here's a quick one. I haven't inquired more on SL side but video compressor are bad at odd numbers. Try to stick with a multiple of 8. All your odd size are reverting to the closest divided by 8 number.
