I can't seem to figure out how to zoom in and out using a zoom region when user clicks a button. The only way I can get it to work is to put several zoom regions on the timeline and resume timeline when user clicks and pause when timeline reaches certain time. But this will limit the amount of times you can zoom in and out. How can I get it to go to a certain point on the timeline when user clicks? Is there a way to do it with javascript?

There is no way to do this that I am aware.

David is correct. Unfortunately, as zoom regions are timeline based, there isn't a way to trigger or make a zoom region clickable. You may want to review this information on Adding Zoom Regions, and also this article on Three Great Uses for the Zoom Region Tool in Storyline.
