Zoom region not working smoothly - possible player problem

Jan 12, 2015

Hi does anyone know how I can get my zoom region to stay centred when it is actually zooming.

I can select my zoom region around an object, but when you actually preview this the zoom region enlarges the object off to the left of the screen and doesn't stay in the centre.

Any thoughts on what i may need to do?

Thanks

Hello Louis - There are a couple of issues reported here. I'll assume the initial report since that's probably how you found this thread. As you can see, we did have a user share a file that we were able to see the issue on. Seems directly related to custom players and HTML5 output. Is that what you are experiencing as well? If you have a file to share, I can add this to the report. This is not something we are able to replicate within the standard player/settings.

I'm having this same issue on a course that didn't have it before I started updating it.  I'm publishing in HTML5 and have tried messing with the volume button and some other options in the player.  I'm having the same issue that when the slides were viewed as a light box it does this, but when viewed as a regular slide, the slides looked fine. I shared my .story file in hopes for some ideas.

Hi Erin,

Thanks for sharing a copy of your project - it looks to be created in Storyline 3 or 360? So this is a bit different than the issue that folks were describing here.

What I see when testing your course is that the zoom of images inside the lightbox cause the ligthbox to go outside the slide/player boundaries. This happens in the HTML5 output only and you can view my Flash example here vs. my HTML5 example here.

This is an issue we've reported to our team as a possible software bug. So I'll include your example as a part of that report.

Once I have additional information I'll let you know here and please let us know if you need anything else.

Hey guys,

I had this problem just now, but I was tearing my hair out over it because I KNOW I've used zoom regions before, with a customized player, and it worked perfectly fine (in both Flash AND HTML5)!

But I finally sorted it out! My issue was stemming from the Previous/Next buttons. We normally don't use this buttons in our customized player, but we keep them on during development. Turns out if you have the previous/next buttons enabled for all slides, it will work. If you have the previous/next buttons disabled for all slides, it will work. If, however, you have the previous/next buttons enabled for SOME slides, then it will break.

Customized players should work perfectly fine with zoom regions, but consistency is the key!

Hope this helps. :)

Great news!  We just released another update for Articulate 360, and included a few important fixes that you'll see in the release notes here.

The item you'll be interested in is:

Zoom regions in lightbox slides could overflow the slide boundaries in HTML5 output.

Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for Storyline 360. Details here.
