Automatic layer triggers
Oct 18, 2013
Hello,
I have a question about the layer triggers in Storyline.
The following triggers always appear automatically within the layers correct, incorrect and try again:
- jump to next slide when timeline ends
- hide layer (this layer) when timeline ends
For the project I'm making with Storyline I want children to press a button themselves to jump to the next slide, so they can take as much time as needed with the feedback on the layer.
Is this some kind of setting in Storyline and if this is the case, how can I change it? Because at the moment, I'm deleting all layer triggers by hand in every slide. It would be very handy if this could be taken care of automatically
Thanks in advance!
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,
When I create a question within Storyline and look at my feedback layers, the automatic triggers I receive are "hide this layer" when the user clicks and jump to next slide when the user clicks - generally connected to the continue button. Have you set up something differently within a feedback master perhaps?
Thanks for your response, Ashley.
However, I am not using a feedback master at the moment. I have tried it now to see if the problem can be solved this way, but even with the use of a feedback master, it is still the case that these two layer triggers (jump to next slide and hide slide layer when timeline ends) appear every time I edit a question and press the 'save and close button', even if I use a feedback master where there 's only the trigger to jump to the next slide when the user clicks a specific button.
Does anybody else know what to do with this?
Hi Stephanie,
My apologies for not understanding the first time - that you remove these triggers, set your own, and then go to edit your question again and these triggers are automatically recreated. I've gone ahead and submitted a case on your behalf with a test file I created, but when you here from our team please feel free to share your actual file with them as well. I'll follow along as well.
Hi Stephanie,
It looks like Regil reported the issue to our QA team who will be looking into it, but we don't have a time frame to offer you right now for a fix.
Hi Stephanie, did you find a fix to this problem in the end?
We're experiencing exactly the same issue.
Hi Content Dev,
I took a look at Stephanie case, and it is still with our QA team. I don't have a time frame to offer, so you may want to PM Stephanie to see if she determined a workaround in the meantime.
I am experiencing this same problem. the "hide layer when the timeline ends" and "jump to next slide when the timeline ends" are both created automatically whenever I'm editing my course. These are not included in the master and can pop up at random. It is very frustrating and slows down my production. A resolution would be most welcome and I will be watching this forum like a hawk in the meantime. Thank you!
Hi Susan and welcome to Heroes!
I'm sorry to hear that this is causing you difficulty as well. Just to confirm, these triggers appear on the feedback layers when editing a question slide - not just any content slide? I checked in on the QA report, and it's still with our team so I don't have any further updates to share. When we have additional information we'll be sure to post here in the forum to keep you all updated.
Hi Ashley. Thanks for your quick response! Yes, this problem appears only in question slides. I will check and see if it's a specific type (multiple answer/multiple choice/true false, etc.).
Thanks Susan for confirming - it has been reported for all question types, so unfortunately the only work around right now is to just remove the triggers after editing the questions.
Okay, thank you Ashley!
I just ran across this question today. Is there a solution? Thanks!
Hi Lisa and welcome to E-Learning Heroes!
I have no update to provide on this issue and it still lies in the hands of our QA Team at this time.
Glad to hear other people seem to have this problem too - but not so glad to hear there is no solution. It's causing me a lot of extra work.
Hi Miranda,
Unfortunately there isn't an update to share on this issue. If we have additional information to share, we'll post here so please ensure you're subscribed to the thread.
Hi everyone!
If it can be of any help to find a solution to fix this bug, I noticed that the triggers always reappear on my feedback layers when I click to open the "Edit pick one (or any other type of question)" panel. As soon as you get out of that panel, the triggers reappear.
I'm working on a final quiz with multiple question slides and this issue is really time consuming :( I hope there will be a solution for it soon.
Thanks!
Hi Cynthia,
Yes, our team is aware of that issue and looking further into it. I don't have an update to share here yet but we'll keep you posted once there is information to share.
Still no information on this one. Shoot, it's certainly an annoying on. The last post helped. At least I know when to look for them now.
Unfortunately no update yet Al. Glad that the last post assisted you.
I'm glad most of my new projects are now produced with Storyline 2. We no longer have this problem in SL2. I had almost forgotten about this issue before receiving the notification for this thread. haha!
Rub it in Cynthia, they aren't working on issues like this anymore for SL1 :(
Hi everyone,
I have a good fix!
There is something you can do to avoid the frustration of removing the layer triggers that automatically get added every time.
From the get-go when creating your quiz questions the first time, set the timeline of your Correct and Incorrect layers to 2 or 3 minutes right away. That way if the "Hide and Jump to next slide when timeline ends" triggers suddenly re-appear by themselves randomly without you noticing, those triggers will only activate 2 or 3 minutes later when the learner is taking the quiz, thus giving him/her enough time to read the feedback and click on the Continue button that you added in.
The good part is that you only have to change the layer timeline duration once for each question when you create them, and it avoids any further issues forever!
I suggest you all try this until Articulate finds the way overdue solution they have been looking into for over 2 years :)
Creative fix Adrian and thanks for sharing here.
Creative fix, yet not really something I'd go for. Our clients would certainly notice the "never ending timeline" after the narration is done and would ask us to fix this. I find it quite odd that this bug is still not fix. I remain hopeful they'll find a real solution to the problem.
How would the clients notice this backend workaround? Do you use the built in playbar in your courses or quizzes?
