Accessibility Scene Options

Apr 07, 2020

What are your thoughts on having two pathways in in course. A scene/pathway that is built with accessibility in mind and a second pathway with the same information but not built with accessibility as a top priority. The second pathway then could have some less problematic items, like text boxes appearing later in the slide rather than right at the beginning.

Hi Cary,

It is not considered best practice to do this because the user has to self-identify their accessibility. According to universal design principles, anything that is created should be able to be used by anyone, barring a cognitive disability.

I have done this when retrofitting learning courses. In my mind, it is not ideal. The person who chooses the "accessible" version may wonder what they are missing and if the experience is truly equivalent. I would not recommend this choice for any clients if we were starting from scratch.

Stay well!
