Adding Another Storyline Module as a Resource

Oct 22, 2018

When working with Resources...obviously I can link to URLs and I can add files (.pdfs, .ppts, etc.) from within the Resources area of the Player and can create links inside the Storyline file itself to those internalized Resources...but does anyone know of a way to add another Storyline file to the Resources tab and link to the story.html file? I want the entire folder structure for the referenced to be uploaded behind the scenes within an existing Storyline file.

I know that I could publish a course to a webserver and then link to the URL for the story.html file but I really wanted to keep this as a self-contained course with all of its references internal to the package.

Hi Tim,

I'm not 100% sure if this meets your requirements but here's a link to a quick demo I've created where you can launch a second Storyline course from the resources whilst keeping everything contained within a single package: http://www.4-pt.co.uk/samples/storyline-as-a-resource/story_html5.html

To do this I linked to the story_html5.html file on my local drive of the course I wanted to embed (note, not the URL of a web address). When I published the course the story_html5.html file is placed in the following directory: story_content > external_files. To this directory I needed to copy and paste the remaining files that made up the second Storyline package in order for the link to work.

If this is what you were looking for you will need to keep in mind that every time you publish your course the additional files will need to be copied and pasted in to the external_files directory.

If publishing for LMS deployment you will likely need to update the manifest file to contain reference to the additional files too.
