Adding Trigger Buttons to the "Player"

May 05, 2014

Hey there!

I'm trying to add "trigger buttons" to the "Player"

on an "individual" slide...but I can't find a way

to do it.

(Not sure if it can be done)

I know how to add the "previous" and "next" buttons.

And I know how to change the text labels on those

buttons.

And I know how to add trigger buttons to the

slide itself.

But how do I add "trigger buttons" to the "Player"

itself?

I want to add these triggers on the bottom of the Player...

on the same level you would normally see your Previous

and Next buttons.

But you can't even see the Player in Slideview

(where you would normally add triggers)...so I'm not

sure that this can even be done at all.

Any ideas?

Thanks much!

Hi Rand,

normally you should see in the story view on the right side the section "Triggers". Here is the function "Jump to next slide - When the user clicks the next button". Beneath there is a icon group and you'll take the left icon "Create a new trigger". Now you can change the properties of that trigger.

Or would you like to insert new buttons to the player area?

I have added things to the Next/Previous buttons per slide. (There should be a Player Trigger in the triggers space on each slide for next/back buttons.)

I've used this to add conditions to advancing or sending them "back" to a different slide rather than the last they were on.

I'm not sure there is a way (possibly monkeying with the code) to add another button or player wide trigger. You can create unassigned action triggers which might be able to do what you are looking for but they aren't going to be tied to the player.

Thanks so much for your replies!

>  Ralf...yes, I am trying how to insert new button onto the "Player" itself...

for an individual slide. It doesn't have to duplicate itself onto other slides.

>  Sara...You may be right in the fact that there is no way to add your own

"custom trigger" to the "Player itself"...aside from relabeling the two buttons

     already provided.

But if that's the case, I would hope that new Storyline revisions would

add this versatility and functionality to the Player itself.

     All the best!

I generally keep my triggers within the module and it lets me do most things. (If you are looking for a CC button I would certainly request this feature it is something Storyline very much needs, I currently create mine within the module (you can put it on the master slide) and work that way.

You can always request a feature.
