Additional Options in Articulate Player

Mar 03, 2014

I'm looking at the Articulate Player and how it can be edited.  My question is we can add additional catergories.  In our case, we want to add Help and Credits as options as well.  I can add them, but how do I populate the info for those catergories?  They appear once I add them, in the Player, but I have no option to populate those sections with data like with Resources.  Am I missing something?

Hi,

It depends what you want to achieve.  My "Help" slide is actually a reminder of how to use the navigation features on the e-learning control panel (so I don't think it's used that much).  So my Help link on the player has a trigger to open this slide at any time for the user.

On the other hand, if you wanted it to include slide specific information, then the best way to do that, in my opinion, would be to use variables.

What you could do is to create a Help slide and add a variable to a text box (e.g. %slideHelp%).  You'd also add a trigger to the Help link on the player to open that slide (and be sure to include a button to jump to previous slide to allow the user to return to the course).  Next, you'd add a trigger on each slide of your course to change the slideHelp variable to include the text relevant to that slide.

With that in mind, every time your user enters a new slide, the slideHelp variable will change, and when the user goes to the Help slide via the player, they will see the extra information.

It would be quite a lot of effort, particularly on a long course, and I'm by no means an expert, but that's how I'd approach it.

Thanks Ryan.  That helps.

The Help is actually our version of "tech support" for our users as they navigate through the course.   The information would be the same for the entire course.  Same with the credit info.

Putting the info there on the navigation features is briliant.   Hope you don't mind if we steal that idea from you.
