Animation Question

Apr 03, 2012

I have a slide where I have yellow arrows that come in week by week on a calendar, using wipe from left animation.

Next, the first 15 weeks yellow arrows disappear, using the fade exit animation, leaving the 16th week arrow by itself. When I publish the course, the fade exit animation adds a black border to the yellow arrows for a second or two before they disappear. Is there any way to get rid of that black border effect? Shoudl I be using a different animation?

Hi Melanie! It looks like there is a bevel or some other 3d effect on the arrows... what I'd do is make a copy of the slide and experiment with removing or altering the 3d effect on one of the arrows, and see of that makes a difference in how it behaves when it fades out.

One thing you could try is going into the effect options to see if there is a dark color being applied to the contour, and change that to something else. You can do this by selecting the object, then clicking Format > Shape Effects > Bevel > 3-D Options. Try changing the color settings there and see if that helps:

If you find that the bevel/3d setting is the culprit but you really want to keep the arrows' appearance as is, you could right-click the arrow, choose Save As Picture, and save it as a png and then reinsert it. That turns it into a static image file (rather than a shape with a whole bunch of effects applied to it) and then it should behave when you apply the fade out animation to it.

I hope that helps!

FYI update - it doesn't seem to be happening because of the bevel on the arrow shape.

I have another slide where I use the red x annotations (png) that is provided her in the Dowloads area. One of the red x's has the fade exit animation applied and it also shows a few seconds of black border. There was no 3D bevel fade or shadow applied to this png.  I changed the animation to disappear and it no longer has the black border effect.

I removed the bevel effect from my arrow shapes and that didn't make a difference. Since the fade disappear didn't work correctly with the red x annotation png, I didn't go through the effort of changing my yellow arrow shape to a png.

Articulate may want to consider updating the list of supported PowerPoint animations to show that the exit fade (and also the teeter) animations are not supported, since they do not perform as expected.
