I have been struggling to get my little drag & drop to provide the correct feedback after a second failed attempt (learners will get 3 tries in total). I am sure it has something to do with my "Try gain" layer; but, I have no idea how to make it work in its current format (reluctant to make the very easy change to 2 total tries). Any suggestions?
The correct layer will only appear once. That layer appears to be working fine, right now. It is just the incorrect 2nd try that seems to bring in the 1st try layer instead.
It sounds like you've got some custom feedback you want to share based on number of attempts, and we'd be happy to help point you in the right direction - it's going to involve tracking variables for sure. But, to really get you going - let's work with the file you've got set up! You’ll want to upload the .story file here (which is the file prior to publishing) using the “ADD ATTACHMENT” button at the bottom of the forums reply window, that way folks in the community can work with your real content and mock it up for you! Even just that one slide would work.
Thanks for your help Adam. Interesting that you added the layers to the Try attempts. It seems to work. I will give it a try (pun intended).
Thanks Tabitha. My file sounds like it is exactly what you suggested, except, I could not get the correct layer to show up on failed attempt 2 of 3. Everything else seemed to work, fine.
I tried to recreate everything you have in your version. It gave me the exact same result I got in my original version. I guess the challenge is this: to get an incorrect response on attempt 2 that says you have 1 attempt left (of the 3). I am attaching the file in case I went wrong in my re-creation.
Thank you for your help also. I had the same issue with your version: could not get the feedback response to say that only 1 attempt was left after the 2nd incorrect attempt.
Sorry, you did mention that you were using an older version. I made the changes using Slide view. I just pulled up the triggers and layers you had and copied each one. I may take another look at it in a day or two (with fresher eyes) just to make sure I did not screw it up.
Wow, Wendy, it worked. Thank you! If I had a prize to send you, I would.
For the benefit of anyone else that is following this thread, I will include the changes I see to the original document (please correct me if I missed something):
Move the Add 1 count to the variable trigger to the top (in the base layer)
For First Try, Second Try and Incorrect layers in the Triggers (set in the Base Layer) the "When" is "User Clicks" and the "Object" is "the Submit Button" rather than "When: the Variable Changes & Variable: Count3Attempts."
One other thing I did was to duplicate the default try again layer (which you had called First layer) and deleted the built in layer. In the form view I also removed the feedback you had in that try again section.

Hi Ariff,
Will your correct feedback layer appear after getting the interaction correct at any other point?

Sorry Ashley, I thought I attached the file with my original post (guess not). Here it is now.
Hi Ariff,
Your version of Storyline might be newer than mine. So, I just made a very basic example of what you might be trying to do.
You can use this as a reference or copy it into your current project at least. Or, just wait for someone with 360 to update your file.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope it is somewhat helpful.
What about if you set it so when the learner returns to the base layer, it is reset to initial state?
You could use a variable to count attempts?
Thanks for your help Adam. Interesting that you added the layers to the Try attempts. It seems to work. I will give it a try (pun intended).

I will update you guys if this works.
Hi Arif,
Check this file...let me know if it works for you.

Hi Akshaya,
Thank you for your help also. I had the same issue with your version: could not get the feedback response to say that only 1 attempt was left after the 2nd incorrect attempt.
Thanks for trying, though.
Sorry to hear that Ariff. I have an older version of Storyline than you so unfortunately cannot open your files. I do wish I could see it.
Quick question, are you typing your try again response in Form View or Slide View?
Sorry, you did mention that you were using an older version. I made the changes using Slide view. I just pulled up the triggers and layers you had and copied each one. I may take another look at it in a day or two (with fresher eyes) just to make sure I did not screw it up.
Thanks again.
Hi Ariff
see if the updates to your file work as expected. I put the variable reference on the slide just for testing so you can remove that.

Thanks again. Truly my hero :)

Hi Ariff
yay!!! glad that worked for you.
