Are You Excited for the Apple Watch?

Jan 30, 2015

Hey Gang! I'd like to think that we're all tech-savvy people. So, I'm curious to know everyone's thoughts on the Apple Watch. Are you excited for it? Are you getting it? Will we all be forced to figure out ways to develop e-learning for it (just kidding)?

I would love one and may get one.  I have to get over one crucial factor and that is the battery length.  When out and about I regularly run my iPhone battery down and the reported 24 hours is very worry especially as it only has 3 hrs of play time (all estimated but may be real, Tim cook has said it will need to be charged daily).

Another factor that may prevent me buying one is that at the moment all processing will really be carried out by apps on the iPhone and in reality the watch is an accessory device that acts as another window into your phone, it may be that Watch 2.0 is a better device. This may mirror the original iPad where Steve Jobs was reported to be irritated when it was called a passive device and not a creative device due to a lack of camera and creative apps.

I think I will watch (pardon the pun) and wait.

As an aside, I am plagued by a dream where I wake up having lost my watch, this happens regularly. I don't have a watch as I stopped wearing one years ago when i got into martial arts (got sick of taking it on and off in between training session. I am hoping that by buying a watch I may stop this dream.

You really shouldn't have asked Tim :-)

My thoughts exactly, Phil! Although I agree with everything you've said (especially regarding battery life), I'm notorious for being an early adopter. I think Apple needs to be careful about how they position it. It's not meant to be a standalone device, and I'm not sure how I feel about that yet.

If they can make its connection with the iPhone feel seamless, then it it wont bother me. However, I don't think Apple has a good track record with that. Airplay is a great example of that. It hardly works for me.

Thanks for your thoughts Phil!
