After reviewing several discussions on auto numbering of slides, I was able to get it to work. 99% of the work is done on one of the Master slides. However, when going from slide to slide, the page count text box blinks coming into the page. Is there any way to keep this from happens, besides putting the trigger on each and every slide? Thanks!
No entrance transition on the pagenumber text block, HOWEVER, taking a closer look at the position of the textblock, it was not at the beginning of the timeline!!!!
So to ensure that the text block always start at the beginning of the timeline I checked "Always Show"!!!

Is there an entrance transition on the pagenumber text block? Or, maybe the textblock doesn't start at the very beginning of the timeline?
