Branching on a Multi-Attempt Quiz

May 22, 2020

Hello,

I have created a hotspot freeform quiz where the learner can attempt to guess the right hotspot twice. If they get both guesses wrong, I want them to be taken back to an earlier slide. How would I create that branching?

Thank you!

I have a story with two scenes; one with 10 content slides and another with 8 quiz slides. How do I direct incorrect answers on quiz question 2.4 to content slide 1.4, and then back to 2.4? My colleagues say I have to make a copy of 1.4 after 2.4 (e.g., 2.5), but I hope they're wrong because duplicating all my content would make for complicated editorial maintenance.

Hi Loren!

The easiest way to build this is by using variables!

Here's what I'd suggest:

  • Add a True/False variable for each question slide and make sure the default value is False.
  • Then add a trigger to each Incorrect Feedback Layer to set the variable to true when the user clicks Continue.
  • Next, add a trigger on the layer to jump to the review slide when the user clicks Continue if the variable is equal to True.
  • On the Review Slide, add a trigger that says Jump to Slide (question slide) when the user clicks next if the variable is equal to true.

You'll want to create this for each Incorrect Feedback Layer and Content Slide to point the learner to specific slides.
