Building a private App store

Jan 19, 2013

I'm developing short eLearning modules for corporate clients who then will provide access to them both for their staff and for their customers.  Web versions - no problem. Mobile versions - no problem providing they have wifi and using browsers. I have two challenges, one I am a bit more certain about but for both I would welcome comments, identification of problems that I haven't forseen, plus offers of technical (paid!) help.

Firstly I want to create offline apps for iPhone, Android etc. I have had offers of help with this but would trust this forum more than others.

Secondly, I think the way I want to go is to set up a private App Store on our server, so that clients' staff and customers can download apps (for the mobile OS that they wish) when we give them access. Each client's version of the package will be branded for them, so I want to create separate areas, as it were.

All comments and contact details very much appreciated.

Hi John,

from your post I wasn't sure if you want to develop iOS and Android apps using their respective Software Development Kits OR if you want to convert Articulate tutorials, e.g. Storyline projects into apps.

For the lalter, you might want to check out PhoneGap Build (some info here: http://build.phonegap.com/), which lets you turn HTML5-based content into a variety of app formats, incl. for iOS and Android. I have tried this with Captivate projects and it worked well. Next, I will test this with a HTML5-published Storylineproject as well.

For a private AppStore, you should look into the iOS Enterprise Deployment option (some info here:https://developer.apple.com/programs/ios/enterprise/) .

If you do need help, I'd love to be involved!

Cheers,

Michael
