Change submit from a check mark to a Submit button for quiz questions

Sep 03, 2019

This seems like it should be easy but I can't figure it out. My multiple choice questions from the Vision layout include a check mark down in the bottom right as the submit button to submit your response. This is not intuitive for the user and I'd like it to be an actual Submit button. How do I change it?

Hello Bonnie.  I used to work for Fidelity!

My users also hate the built in submit button in the modern player so I turn it off on my quiz slides and add a button with a trigger.

Step one: Add a button.  "Insert" --> "Button". Label it "Submit"
StoryLine will add an empty trigger in your trigger panel.
Click the Add trigger link that StoryLine provides.
In the "Action" drop down, select "Submit Interaction"
In the Interaction drop down, choose the current question
In the When field, select when "User clicks"
In the object field, select your new button.

Place it on the slide where it makes the most sense.  For me, that is typically the bottom right hand corner.

PS.  I've yet to have anyone complain about the "navigation changing" because they expect that quizzes are different than regular content slides.

Hi Bonnie!

Thanks for posting your question here! You're right that simply having the checkbox icon for your submit button can be kind of small and hidden in the corner, hard for learners to see.

If you go into your Storyline Player Properties window, click on "Colors and Effects" button, you will see a drop down item in that screen called "Navigation:". From that drop down, you can change "Icon" only to "Icon and Text". This will add the word "'Submit" to your button in addition to the checkmark which makes it stand out/ appear more obvious. Hope this helps!! :) PS If this doesn't give you the look you desire, you can certainly create your own custom buttons as indicated by Owen! That's a great tip too! I just wanted to let you know about that ability to add text to the default Navigation button in case that's all you need. :)

Hello, I have the same problem, I don't like the integreated button, it is too far away and during the explaination page to explain how to navigate throw the module, it is no possible to access this button.

I really prefer to built my omn button.

My problem is: during a noted quiz, the learner need to click on radio button to select the right answer but when he click on my submit button, it deactivated the radio button and then ask to select an answer.

Could it be possible to setup a button just to validate without deactivating the select answer?

Greetings, Lemarchand!

I'm happy to look into the radio button behavior with you.

First, here's a video demo of my experience with a graded quiz and custom Submit button in Storyline 360 Update 47. Do you see something different happening on your side?

If yes, could you upload a sample slide in your follow-up reply to this discussion so I could replicate the experience? I'm excited to dig in!

Hi there,

I had a similar question as Bonnie, and followed the tips provided by Nicole, which were super helpful, so thank you!

Now I am realizing however, when previewing the mobile mode that the "Submit" text does not pop up by the check mark but does for the laptop and tablet experience. Can this be altered on my end? Or is this just not something that mobile users would experience, and as the designer I have to mitigate?

Similarly, is there a way to remove the native submit check mark once users have submitted and reviewed the correct responses. It just seems clunky to have a submit button there still. If there is a way to remove it, that would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Hi Patrick,

Happy to help here!

The navigation text does not appear on mobile. Can this be altered?

Mobile navigation removes the text to allow for more course real estate. There isn't a way to alter the text to be included.

Can I remove the Submit checkmark during quiz review?

That's odd, when I review my quiz, the Submit checkmark goes away, and navigation buttons appear to move through the quiz! Do you not see this below?
