Changing the State of a Character

Dec 10, 2020

Hello everyone,

I'm sure this is a "rookie duh" on my part, but I can't figure out how to change the state of a character based on the position on a slider.

I click on New Trigger, I select the Action Change State Of, and the object is Character 1. My choices for State are things like: Normal, Disabled, Down, Hidden, Hover, Selected, etc. The poses and expressions for the character are not available for me to choose.

I'm sure there's something I haven't done, I just can't figure out what it is. If you have suggestions for me, I'll take them.

Thanks!

Hi Kim,

You can use states for characters, but you have to set them up.

  1. First, input your character onto the screen.
  2. Then select State, which is located next to the Timeline link at the bottom of your screen.
  3. Click the Edit States button
  4. Click the Add State icon. It looks like a sheet of paper. This adds a new state.
  5. Give your new state a meaningful name.
  6. With the new state selected, delete the character from the state, and insert a new character with the new pose that you want.
  7. Select Done Editing States.
  8. Now you can select the new custom state from your triggers to change the pose to the new state.

For more information about how you can add and edit states, read this article.
