Choose an Avatar and Insert

The 2 things you want to achieve are quite possible with Storyline. Here's a few links to some tutorials & articles to help you out:

Allow Learners to Choose an Avatar Using 1 Variable: This article also has a video tutorial you can follow. It shows how you can allow your learner to choose a character and then display that character again later in the course. 

Add and Display a User's Name in Storyline: This article will show you how to add a text entry field for learners to type in their names, and then how you can show that name on a later slide in the course using what's called a Reference.

that is chosen by the learner into another slide.

Hi Jewell, it doesn't look like this is something you can do in Storyline at the minute, see this thread where one of the Articulate team has posted: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/insert-upload-image

It would be a great addition though so you should definitely submit a feature request.
