Complex Video Looping Question
Jul 27, 2017
I've got 5 videos on a "hub" page, with one running full screen in the background, and four smaller ones in the foreground spread out on the page symmetrically.
- The four smaller ones are each 8 seconds long and all have triggers to loop via playing themselves after their respective media completes.
- The background one is 44 seconds long, and also has a trigger to loop when media completes.
I want all 5 to loop - the 8 second videos do not, the 44 second video does. I believe the issue is related to the timeline, but I'm curious if anyone has ideas on how to correct it.
I'd like to avoid introducing layers if possible, and jumping to other slides is not an option as this is a link hub.
Short of just compositing the 8 second videos in Adobe and making them 44 seconds long via looping in there and re-exporting, is there a way to accomplish the desired effect of having all the videos loop regardless of what the timeline length is set to?

Have you tried using "when media completes" as your trigger instead of "when timeline ends"?
Yes, all video triggers are currently set to replay themselves after media completes.
...and they are each pointing to themselves as the media?
That's correct - the 44 second loops just fine, but the 8 second ones do not.
That seems strange to me. I just tried it in SL2 and it works "as advertised".
Thanks for testing that out!
After some experimenting it appears that the looping is just not working on my video files; I was able to replicate the rough file resize/placement/quantity and duration setup using the videos in your test file and they worked fine.
Not sure what exactly about mine aren't playing nice with SL2, they're just standard H.264 outputs. Framerates on them are 29.97fps, which I suppose could be a factor, but to my understanding SL2 renders in 30fps so I don't see why that'd matter if it allows me to import them.
More testing required! I'll drop an update in here if any resolution is discovered.
Maybe try converting your videos to MP4 format prior to adding the to the .story file?
They're actually already in .mp4 format (H.264 is just an industry-standard codec), so going to need to play around with it I suppose! Will share if there's any epiphanies on why these ones aren't playing ball. Thanks again!
