computer simulations software?
Nov 14, 2011
I am building an Articulate course with Screenr presentations to demonstrate how to use a new online tool our company is introducing. My employer also wants to include an option for the learner to "try" it via a simulated learning where the user takes control of the learning.
Is anyone aware of a software program we can use to build such a course or know how this can be done in Articulate? My google searches aren't giving me any options.
Thanks!
Leanne

Some current options include Qarbon ViewletBuilder, Adobe Captivate and a few other tools. It looks like the next product from Articulate called Storyline (available for pre-order and releasing *pretty soon* according to official announcements) might support "Show me / Let me try" type interactions pretty well.
I've built hundreds of software simulations using Captivate. Check out my portfolio -- colinwhitworth.com -- for some examples.
I am a freelance e-learning contractor, so let me know if you need help.

I use Captivate for simulations. Steeper learning curve, but a pretty useful tool once you get used to it.
Placing them into Articulate isn't as easy as it should be, but I'm pleased with the two in concert nonetheless.
Captivate is a good option for now. As Colin said, it's a little steeper learning curve, but really not that tough at all (compared to say, Flash). Once you learn it, though, it offers a lot of options for simulation training.
I am eagerly waiting to get my hands on the new Articulate Storyline product, though. I think that's going to be the one-stop shopping solution many of us have been hoping for. No pressure, Articulate.
Hi Leanne,
Here is a blog post from a few years back explaining jow to, do this with PowerPoint and articulate.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks for the tips and advice everyone.
Eric: Thanks for the link! I like this solution best because I already have the required software, so I only needed to learn a few new steps to create simulations. You rock!
I think I will use this until Storyline is available.

Captivate is the best software for simulations try it !
So I'm teetering between Storyline and Captivate, as my company both has simulations I will need to create, but I am a huge proponent of interactive learning and the practice of using the paradigm of games to learn (and i am told that Storyline is IT when it comes to creating interactive learning)
So any opinions? Anyone?
Download the trial version of StoryLine and play with the recording option. I think you will find it meets all of your needs.
Just my 2 cents.
