Consolidated SCORM Quiz Result?

Apr 28, 2017

Scenario:

If a quiz is carried out across multiple sessions (e.g. twenty heavy numerical questions, you did ten question on Monday, you did another ten on Tuesday) , is the quiz result a consolidated result from all the sessions?

Hi James,

You may have figured this out by now but as long as you have your Player Properties set to Prompt to resume or Always resume (as in the attached screen shot) it should save the learners progress within a test. I ran a quick test on SCORM Cloud to make sure. If the learner has a 50% test score by the end of day one, that is what their progress will show. Once they complete the test on the second day, if they pass, it will show a successful completion status.

I hope this is helpful!

James James

Thanks Adam for the testing mentioned above.

You are right.
We have set "Prompt to resume" and got "consolidated results" work.
(i.e. scores of 100% from first day's score of 50% & second day's score of 50%).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next Challenge - Scenario:
A. On Monday, student ABC logged in LMS and took a lesson with twenty heavy numerical questions (each question weights 5%). During his 1st attempt he completed 10 questions and scored all correct (scored 50%). He logged out. LMS reported his score for the lesson is 50%
B. On Tuesday, he logged in and continued (resume) the 1st attempt & complete all remaining 10 questions (he also scored all the remaining questions correct (scored 50%). He logged out. LMS reported his score of this 1st attempt which consisted two sessions is 100%, which is correct.
C. One month later, he logged in and took the same lesson (2nd attempt) for self-assessment purpose, he completed all questions in one go and got 15 questions correct (scored 75%), which is also correct. He logged out.
D. One week before final exam, he logged in and took the same lesson (3rd attempt) for review purpose, he completed only three questions out of the twenty questions & logged out LMS which is accessed only partial (not complete) of the twenty questions.

For scenario above, we are looking for one solution (settings of Storyline and Moodle) that can meet all three requirements below:

1. Students are able to continue / resume where they left off from day one.
E.g. Students are able to continue a lesson (question / slide) where he / she left off last time
2. LMS reports Highest score
E.g. LMS reported the highest score from the three attempts mentioned above), which is LMS reported 100% for the lesson.
3. LMS reports Best completion
E.g. LMS reported the Best completion from the three attempts mentioned above, which is LMS reported "completed" even the last attempt, the 3rd attempt, is incomplete

Hi James,

Happy to hear the first challenge is working out for you!

For the next challenge, it sounds like the first two requirements are working out for you?

I am unsure how to address the third requirement at this time. I was under the impression the LMS reported as a single property of 'complete' or 'incomplete' and did not store specific information for each completion here.

If I find further information on this I will be sure to circle back to you.

Thanks!

James James

Adam, thanks for your fast response.

FYI, individually requirement no. 1 and requirement no. 2 work properly. But both requirements do not work together. I have not seen requirement no. 3 working so far.

Let me describe as follows:

For SCORM 1.2
, if the student had completed the three attempts in one go (e.g. Monday completed 1st attempt, Tuesday completed 2nd attempt, Wednesday completed 3rd attempt, no resume for each attempt), LMS reported the highest score among the three attempts (so requirement no. 2 works). During any of the three attempts, the student was able to resume where he left off from the last slide if he wanted to do so but his scores from these different sessions for the same attempt were not consolidated (so requirement no. 1 does not work).

For SCORM 2004, during any of the three attempts, the student was able to resume where he left off from the last slide and his scores from these different sessions for the same attempt were consolidated (so requirement no. 1 work). But LMS did not reported the highest score among the three attempts (LMS reported the last attempt score, the third attempt, so requirement no 2 does not work).

Please feel free to discuss and suggest your best practice, thank you.
