Cost estimating when using outside developers
Mar 18, 2013
As a dyslexic author, I know that the best way to create an awesome project is to hire experts in their field to help.
I'd like to offer training in my industry using three methods.
1. My book and study guide
2. Professional classroom facilitators
3. E-Learning modules
Can anyone give me a ball park figure of what an e-learning course would cost to develop where the source material is a 648 page book and 202 page Study Guide? I would only estimate about 39 of the 44 chapters being used in the course.
I would prefer that the modules be set up so that I could repackage and resell if needed. I understand that I may need to pay the originator of the course something for each package that I license.
Thank you for any suggestions that you can offer.
Bill

Hi Bill
Based on a project that I have recently done that was 120 pages of font size 12, if you do a full conversion of all the content you are probably looking at 600+ hours this is not including voice over.
This is without seeing the content and it could be considerably more.
I think it would be better to convert the classroom course into elearning rather than the book
Hi Bill, welcome to the forums. I have to agree with Phil. Most logical step would be to see which part of the classroom can be converted into elearning. If the full book isn't a must read before training you could look which sections are essential and can be conveyed in small 'nuggets'.
