Courses not tracking in LMS - any thoughts

May 31, 2013

I'm having an issue with courses (created in Articulate, published as scorm versions) on my LMS registering (or communicating back to SOLS) that they are complete.
I tried 6 computers.  3 worked perfectly as expected, 3 did not-they remain as incomplete to the learner.  I'm wondering if there is possibly some setting in IE or something else that is different between the ones that work and the ones that don't.  They are all on IE7
This is an issue that plagues me constantly.  I'm unsure if it is a computer setting issue or if it is an issue within LMS programming.  Any thoughts on solution/troubleshooting would be extremely appreciated.

Course tracking can be such a frustrating issue, especially since there are so many variances in LMSs and end-user systems. I've been in the e-learning industry for over 15 years and have worked with numerous LMS vendors and authoring tools. The only commonality between all of them is inconsistent tracking.  I'm not sure if it's a problem inherent with SCORM, but there just seems to be no rhyme or reason. Most courses will track, but then there's those few that fail. Users end up losing faith in the platform and content.

Although my experience has consistently shown that Articulate courses (Presenter and Storyline) are amongst the highest in reliable tracking, a recent update to our LMS a couple of weeks ago resulted in a large precentage of our Presenter courses no longer exiting after the user completed the quiz.. This has caused hundreds of courses not to track. The only work-around we found was for users to turn on compatibility view mode in IE. It's caused a huge drain on our support resources.

Over the years, I've put together a list of best practices for course tracking and am happy to share it with you here. Hopefully, some of the tips will work for you.

hello everyone

i've been having issues too, i have a quiz that i'm trying to upload into my LMS (DOKEOS), and it isn't tracking the results. When i complete the quiz, in the tracking section of my LMS says that it's in "suspense mode", i don't know if i am doing something wrong, i have to tell you that i am new in the "articulate world" (2 weeks more or less),
