I'm trying to create a hotspot interaction without using layers. I have set triggers to all of my text boxes to reveal when the hotspot is clicked using the change state function in the timeline.
However when I click the hotspot in the preview, nothing happens. The state of my hidden text boxes doesn't change to normal, thus revealing them, I just get nothing.
Do I have to go back and do it again with layers, or is there some trick I'm missing? I tried to look for other answers here, but everything refers to doing it with layers.
I had something similar happen myself and realized that my hotspots were underneath the objects I wanted to change states. I had created the hotspots first. Once I moved the hotspot to the top layer, everything was fine. Hoping your issue is as simple as that. Otherwise, I'm sure the community here has something more insightful to offer!
Quite basic and understandable mistake you made. You had the textboxes invisible for any activity in Storyline by clicking the 'eyes' in front of the layers. Indeed that makes the layer invisible in your Storyline, but also complete inactive.
If you check my image, you can see what you need to do to get it working. First of all enable all eyes in front of the layers, so they are visible and active. Then go to the states of the layers of your text elements you want to hide and set the 'Initial state' to Hidden.
Then it works as intended.
I do think however the graphical elements in your scene could use a 'hover' state. So when you hover a cylinder/hotspot it somehow graphical shows your hovering that and you can find more info on it by clicking thus then showing the text.
Math - thanks so much. You saved me hours of frustration. And you were right, the hover feature worked way better than the click to reveal. Much apreesh!

Hello Jason! I'm sorry that's happening. It's hard to know what's going on without seeing it. Can you share your .story file so we can take a look?
Thanks Sarah. Is there a way to just save the one slide? Or do I need to upload the whole presentation?
Hi Jason,
you can create new storyline file and copy just this one slide,
or do a screenshot where we can see all triggers, timeline and slide.
Here you go. Thanks for being willing to look at this.

Math, thank you for finding the solution!
Jason, I'm glad this works for you.
