Creating Powerpoint Handouts when slides are animated

I need to create handouts from my Powerpoint presentations, as well as print the slides to be reviewed and approved by our Compliance department. However, I have moved away from the bullet-point model and now include more graphics and animation, so when saving/exporting as PDF all the elements appear jumbled together.

How do you handle this situation? I'm trying to avoid creating a duplicate "clean" or unanimated version of the presentation.
