Custom Interaction Idea - Is This Possible?
Nov 28, 2012
Hi Everybody!
I've been going nuts all day trying to figure out if I can do something in Articulate Storyline for an eLearning I'm creating. Let me know your thoughts!
I'd like to have an interaction that allows the user to enter their list of "to-dos" into a freeform. Once the user clicks "Next," I'd like for their list to still be there and (if possible) editable for the next topic discussed. I've tried working with layers and triggers but haven't had much luck since the tool will not let me remove the "Submit Interaction" trigger that comes with the freeform.
If anyone knows of a way I can make this happen, let me know!
Thanks!!

PS - This is my first post here but I use the forums a lot for tips!

Hi, Gina -
Few ways to get this done. If you don't need the submit button you can do this with text entry fields on each screen. You'll need to assign the same variable to the field in the triggers panel to get it to populate in the second screen. See the attached for an example.
Steve! You are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is perfect! Thank you so much for your support and most excellent example!!!!!!!!!!
Much appreciated!!!!

Quick Update/Follow-Up Question
I added this field to my presentation and it works (YAY!). When I try to type into the field on the next slide to edit, all of the text gets highlighted and doesn't allow me to just click and add a small edit. It'll select all of the text and then replace it with whatever new stuff I type.
Can the automatic highlighting be changed or is it a Storyline quirk? If it's a quirk, I'll change the approach of my presentation to not require the learner to edit their text and suggest this as a Feature update!
Thanks again!

Hi, Gina -
I think this is default behavior for the display of fields. It's a quirk that I haven't been able to find a workaround for.
Cool thanks so much, Steve! I was playing around with the feature all day yesterday and didn't seem to find a way to adjust. BUUUT I did figure out a way to rework my eLearning so the learner doesn't have to edit what they typed in. Woohoo!
Thank you again and have an excellent weekend!
