Custom Replay or jump to end of slide

Aug 22, 2017

Folks,

I am looking to create a button to jump to the end of a slide. I see it's been requested for years but it's not available. I created custom navigation because the native Next/Prev doesn't work properly when in Restricted mode. If you set a slide to "Resume saved State" there's seemingly no way to replay the slide; SO you're either stuck with starting the slide over (Reset to initial state) or giving access to the seakbar (which defeats the purpose of restricting navigation...). Thus my restricted custom navigation has a Slide Specific Variable which I use to restrict the custom navigation. I now pause the timeline when revisiting the slide based on the state of this variable, but I'd like to give the student the ability to jump to the end of the slide upon a revisit. Any way to do this with as little triggers as possible, custom navigation already has 7 triggers on each slide, it gets ripe for errors when you can't organise or file your triggers.

If the native replay button would just actually work when resuming saved state there'd be no issues; if the author could give access to the seakbar when a slide is revisited then again no issues (best option!!!!!), but alas, non of this is available to the author so we're left dreaming up elaborate trigger workarounds... Feature requests are going unanswered. I'm on SL2 and I'm sure any updates would now only work on SL3.

In any case, if anyone has figured a simple way to replay a slide I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks all,

Hi Vaughan,

I have been thinking about this issue for years and have been using this solution.

(1) When timeline starts disable next button, if slide -specific variable is false

(2) When slide-specific action is done, change slide-specific variable to true

(3) When slide-specific action is done, change state of Next button to true.

It's tedious for such a simple request that should be native to the software. I would like to know if SL3 or 360 has this feature. I feel your frustration.

Cheers,

Julie

Thanks Julie, I have a similar configuration for restricting navigation. It works well. Problem however, is we only have "Resume Saved State" and "Reset to Initial" options. I'd like the slide to be at the end when student goes back for review and be able to play the slide over at their discretion. Problem is the native replay button is disabled in "Resume Saved State," and if "Reset to Initial" the slide starts over with no ability for the student to fast forward or go to the end of the slide. I want to restrict the initial training but give them access to the slide upon review (or going backwards). SL makes this seemingly simple task nearly impossible.
