customer-facing LMS

Oct 31, 2014

Does anyone have a need or has used a customer-facing Learning Management System?  Just wondering how companies handle certification programs and tracking progress through a curriculum.  At a previous job we approached BrainShark to build something like this (they build the content and structure) but the project died on the vine.  Just wondering what family of products out there can support a certification program for customer base.

Thanks!

No, I'm not building a new LMS.  I'm looking to find a product or SaaS that is geared towards offering external customers a way to learn products - hopefully edging towards a certification program.  I'm just spitballing at this time.  But I'd love to know more about this type of training setup.  Everything I do now is internal only.

If your scale is small and compatible with this type of content presentation, you might consider using a Wordpress-based solution. http://www.learndash.com paired with either the Grassblade LRS or Saltbox can be pretty easy to setup and can be fairly cost effective. Getting these to work for e-commerce can be a little tricky.

If you don't need the LRS connection (Tin Can / xAPI), http://www.woothemes.com/products/sensei/ looks pretty slick.

I agree with Matthew on identifying your "must have" and "nice to have" features before you start looking for an LMS.

I suggest you check out LearnUpon (I work as Digital Marketer for LearnUpon). Many of our customers use LearnUpon to train their customers on how to use their software, products and lots more.

LearnUpon is easy to use and affordable. It allows you to quickly setup courses and enroll learners. Your personally branded certificates can be awarded automatically to the learner on successful completion of the course. It is also possible to track and generate reports on learner progress.

If you would like to try LearnUpon for yourself sign up for our 30 day free trial.

GrassBlade xAPI Companion and LearnDash can also be used for HTML5 content without Tin Can tracking.

But when tracking is required WordPress + GrassBlade xAPI Companion + LearnDash + GrassBlade LRS can work perfectly well. Small and Medium scale companies, and even some very large companies and universities have used it very well, even with thousands of students.
