Data Data Everywhere...how to consolidate?

Nov 13, 2019

I work for a distribution company that requires employees to complete multiple external training courses and certifications hosted on distributor or industry related LMSs (OSHA, etc). Currently all external completion data is self reported by the employee and collected in an Access database. I'd like to centralize this data and run reports within one internal LMS (our current one doesn't even come close to having this capability)...does anyone here have experience consolidating training data from multiple sources? I assume it's going to be messy, but even slightly less messy would be an improvement.

When you look at new LMS solutions, consider one that supports xAPI - this allows you to gather information from really pretty much ANY source (that provides the data) and store it as a record of something that's been viewed or completed. There are other terms for systems that do this - LRS (learning record store) and LXP (learning experience platform) but I kind of think of an LRS as a database and an LXP as an amped-up LMS if that makes it easier :)

I haven't worked with these systems as I switched companies right before the old one decided to upgrade the LMS and I'm not involved with LMS admin at the new one. But I know that for what you need, this is what you need.
