Disabling the Next Slide button

Dec 27, 2016

Hi Everyone,

I'm a rocky here so I have you can help me :)

I know how to disable the Next side button until the timeline or interaction is over, but what I really want to know is how keep it enabled later if the slide is completed and revisited again without the need to wait for the timeline to get over.

Thanks :)

Hi Ibrahim! Great question - and it is possib le to do it with Storyline. There might be more than one way but here's what I recommend:

  • Create a new true/false variable called "slide_x_visited" and set its default value to False
  • On the slide that you want learners to revisit without waiting for the next button, create a new trigger "Adjust variable slide_x_visited to be equal to True when the Timeline ends on this slide". Now, when the timeline ends, the next button will appear AND the value of the variable will be adjusted.
  • On the same slide, add a condition to the trigger that "Changes the state of the Next button to Hidden when the Timeline starts on the slide". On that trigger, click Show Conditions, and add a condition "If slide_x_visited is equal to true."
  • Now, the "Next" button will only become hidden when the timeline starts the very first time they view the slide. As soon as they have viewed the entire timeline, the variable will become adjusted and when they revisit the slide the Next button will not become hidden anymore.

I've also attached a .story file if you want to see exactly how I set it up with triggers and the variable. Note: you'd have to create a variable for each slide you want learners to be able to revisit without waiting for the Next button, and add these new triggers/conditions to each slide. :) Hope this is helpful! Best of luck! :)
