Distance Learning Demonstration

Jan 17, 2017

Has anyone ever had to demonstrate any equipment or large mechanical devices using distance learning?  A company has a large piece of equipment and would like to demonstrate its use to a classroom of students remotely.  I was initially thinking that something like Skype or FaceTime would work best, but just wondering if there are any "professional" equivalents out there that are used.  Ideally, this would be a classroom of students together interacting with someone using the equipment overseas.  Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Alicia,

What you may be looking for is "Interactive Webcasting".

Beyond simple Skype-type conferencing, this will allow you to do things like use a real (outboard) video camera for better quality and close ups/zooms on the equipment, dual cameras for more interest and polish, and easy integration of other media such as diagrams etc.

It's not difficult per se, but it is harder to wrap your head around initially than just plain conferencing. There are services that offer expertise as well as local companies in most areas that specialize in this sort of thing - might be a great way to start for your first one to avoid any technical issues that can derail your class.

Hope this helps!
