E-Learning Glossary: What Terms Are Missing?

Jun 29, 2015

Hey gang,

Awhile back I started this new series called E-Learning ABCs where I'm compiling  a glossary of the most important keywords, concepts, themes, etc. related to e-learning.

Only problem is... I feel like it's slim pickings right now. I would love your ideas and suggestions on which terms I should include.

Thanks in advance community!

I teach an E-Learning Instructional Design Practicum at a local university. I created a glossary for the course. It is attached here. If you find any of the terminology useful, you're welcome to use my definitions. I recommend including the words "development" and "production" because my students mix them up a lot.

I'm sure you will be adding acronyms since it's pretty much impossible to avoid them.  If so these are the ones that come to mind...

LRS, LMS, SME, SSO, FTP, CRM, SCORM, HRIS....

Here are some other terms that come to mind...

Authoring tool, Tin Can API

I can't wait to see the compilation.  Thank you David for your glossary.

Learning Objectives (I know this isn't e-learning specific but still very important to e-learning)

Simulation (not software based)

Cognitive Overload (and related principles)

Animation

Blended Learning

Webinar

Drag and Drop

Interactivity/Interaction

Certificate

Microlearning

Progress Bar

Asynchronous e-learning

Conversational Style

Instructional Design Models (SAM, ADDIE, etc.)

Some of those may not really fit in with what you're looking for, but I basically just word vomited what I thought of :)
