E-Learning How-Tos posts

Feb 05, 2013

Hi,

I'm a regular reader of the Articulate Community forums and blog posts.  I learn so much from others and particularly enjoy looking at step by step screen cases.  But, but I find that the posts done on "E-Learning How-tos" will not play on my computer... ever.  They appear to open and then lauch to a blank, black screen with an X in the corner to close it down.  It's really frustrating that all of the content on other Articulate pages works just fine, but the "How-To's" don't.  Could someone please build a Screenr that explains how-to open a "How-To" post?

Or better yet, have the folks that build that page use the same tools as are used for the other pages so that "How to use How-to" isn't necessary?  It would be much appreciated!

Thanks for getting back to me, Jeanette.  Neither video will play.   I have this issue consistently with the E-How videos, but I do not have the problem anywhere else on the E-learning Heros.  It acts like it will open, but it doesn't.  I'm using IE8 and my Presenter and Storyline files (as well as Screenrs) play just fine.  If there's a solution, I'd sure like to know what it is.

Joyce,

Have you tried the suggestions sent to you from Sarah Schenone. In case you didn't get the email, I've attach this below.

Our How-To videos are not served the same way our videos are served from the community pages. You could try enabling IFRAMES in Internet Explorer. Since your office is in a restricted environment, please get your IT person to assist.

1. Open Internet Explorer, and pull down the "Tools" menu

2. Select "Internet Options"

3. Click the "Security" tab, select the "Internet" icon, and click the "Custom Level" button

4. Scroll down to the "Miscellaneous" section, find the "Launching programs and files in an Iframe" entry and click the "Enable" button ON

5. Close all open Dialogs by clicking their OK button

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, can you make sure your flash is up to date or use another browser.

As I understand the issue, this only happens from your work environment (very secure) and your IT person was able to get this working in Google Chrome. If using Google Chrome isn't an option or your IT personnel cant assist with changing the IE settings, I'm not sure we can suggest anything to circumvent the office environment security.

Joyce -

I chuckled when I saw your post re: involving IT. I had to contact our IT group last year to get Articulate's Screenr videos to play at work.

After thanking endlessly the IT support tech, he joked that it was his group that created the problem in the first place by banning all streaming video.

Make the case to your IT group regarding the value in the How to movies and they'll open the ports.

I'm still having the issue and so glad to hear I'm not the only one! My IT department has not been able to help so far. I tried changing my settings as suggested by David Burton but that didn't help. I'm getting "Internet Explorer (IE8 by the way) cannot display the webpage." when I click on the watch button.

I can forward the emails to my home and watch them from there so I think it's a security issue. What a pain. I'm open to other suggestions.

Any thoughts?

BJ
