Escape the Office - a Storyline2 game
May 08, 2017
Hi All
Not so long ago I went on a hen weekend and did an Escape the Room game – it was loads of fun, but it got me thinking – could I not build something like this in Storyline?
I wanted to look at compiling a load of different elements in to one course to show the world what we here at Willow DNA are capable of with tools like Storyline2. I think that sometimes people get stuck on what they have seen in the past and the same old elearning routines.
We decided to make something totally fun and not focused on compliance or health and safety but on what is possible within Storyline so that we can show clients something totally different – and then talk to them about how the different elements could be applied to their learning.
For the next three weeks we have a competition running for Learning At Work Week (15th – 19th May) in which you can win a £50 Amazon voucher for completing the fastest time – Ts and Cs apply and only UK residents over 18 can enter – but anyone can have a go at playing the game.
Elearning heroes is a great resource and I certainly couldn’t have built it without you guys. I have used some great downloads and tutorials from here: Exporting values – Kate Robertson, Javascript Timer – Christopher Krieger and used Dave Mozealous’ Better Calculator as a guide to building the phone.
Here is the link to see the game:
Enjoy!

Hey Lizzie,
This looks great. What a good idea too! I've just started playing it now (while I'm in the office) and don't want to stop - it's already very addictive!!
thanks Stu. good luck with completing it!
This is so awesome Lizzie! I am terrible with puzzles, so no joy for me, but I'll have another go when I have more time. Nice to see something challenging!
Thanks Veronica - I was thinking I made it too easy, now I wonder if I made it too hard - but I think everyone likes a challenge!
This is super cool, Lizzie! Thanks for sharing
So far no body has managed to complete it!
I think your movie brainteaser slide is off. I'm confident I have both answers but keep getting not quite right. Have you allowed for multiple variations of the movie titles? like 7 versus seven?
I have covered I believe all various spellings and number options.
Have you included any 'the's
Also number one caught a few people out
Really? I'm certain I included the 'the's. I just sent an email for confirmation... I don't want to spoil it for others with any answers (right or wrong) here. :-)
I did a bit of extra testing and I think that if you have extra spaces at the start or the end of any text typed in it will mark it incorrect.
This is so clever, Lizzie. I'm hooked!
OK - completed it but.... I'm not in the UK :-P
Great game! I almost didn't see one of the clues, even though it was one of the first actions I took.
Hi Lizzie
are the lights supposed to disappear or just turn on and off - I'm having them disappear altogether
I have a screenshot if you want it.
I found it case sensitive :-)
oh that is really strange Wendy - what browser are you on?
All the settings with in Storyline are set to "ignorecase".
Chrome Version 58.0.3029.110 (64-bit) and until used Sentence case it wouldn't accept the answers - really enjoying the challenge - thanks for sharing ;-)
hmmmm... that is weird especially as the answer options are all written in lower case,
Can you send a screen shot of the lights disappearing?
What device are you using?
Windows 10 laptop
Thanks for the screen shot Wendy
Was it like that after you clicked the lights? or like that to start?
The lights should just turn on and off - that is the only states they have - but in your image it looks like the box boarder is still there - as in it is trying to show the state but the image with in the box is missing...
We did lots of testing on this - mostly on Windows and Chrome and had no problems so I cant think what might be making it do this behaviour!
Hey Lizzie
it starts off with all lights visible (on or off state), when i start clicking that's when they disappear. I'll run it again and video what's happening.
Thanks Wendy - if you click my profile picture and then find the icon that says contact me you can send it to my email if that is ok?
and of course I can't replicate it again - LOL
oh that is so weird!
May be I will put it down to Storyline bugs!
Wendy, are you in the US? You are probably running the lights on 110 Volts vs the 220 European Volts these lights were designed for.
