Exporting Storyline 2.0 to PowerPoint

Aug 23, 2016

Hi folks,

I know a few people asked this question about 3 years ago, so I wanted to see if there were any updates to this limitation. Have the developers of Storyline 2.0 changed anything so a story file could be exported to PowerPoint? Does anyone know of a work around that's worked for them in light of this limitation?

Thanks in advance.

There is not a way to export an SL2 project directly into PowerPoint yet, although it looks to be a very popular feature request.

Personally, my advice would be to always build your SL2 outline (shapes, content) in Powerpoint first. This gives you a lot more flexibility and ensures you've got a baseline for what your SL2 will feel like before you start programming triggers and adding variables. This also ensures you can import your Powerpoint Slide Master (if you have one) with everything from the get-go, whereas you cannot export a Slide Master from SL2 in the other direction.

In a pinch, the workaround I'd take if I needed to take something from SL2 and rebuild it into a PowerPoint doc is:

1) Make a bunch of blank slides in the SL2 project to organize vector objects (shapes) I've made, and copy those from the project and paste to the blank slides (One object/group per slide.)

2) Resize the objects to a very large size (each roughly the size of the entire slide)

3) Right-click on each one by one and "Save As Picture". This means the images that were previously vector will raster at a high enough resolution that when you reimport to PPT, you can just size them back down and they'll still look good (Not doing this means everything will look kind of compressed and gross.)

4) Finally, publish the SL2 as a Word Document, so that I can copy and paste between Word and PPT to rebuild the text in the project.

Best of luck!
