Forum Discussion

Jan 12, 2016

I am looking for some help.

We use Moodle as our LMS, currently using Moodle 3.0.
Moodle has the discussion forum, which I want to use as part of my training course. I am developing a new supervisor orientation class to get our new supervisors up to speed on our policies, and some other items. One of the items I am training on is the use of supervisory notes. I want the supervisors to post in the discussion board an example of notes that they would take. Then compare theirs to and rate others supervisors. Having discussions on the notes taken. That's the gist of what I want to do.

When I embed the forum into my Studio '13 package, it displays mostly ok.

Moodle as set up for test

Is there a way to embed without the package displaying everything in Moodle?

Moodle displayed in package

If you notice what is displayed in the published package is the same as the page. I just want the forum pane to display, not everything else. I can live with it, but I want to make it less busy.

Please forgive the blandness, this was just a test of the system, seeing if it had the capability to do what I wanted it to.

Thanks everyone.

You could hide the navigation block in Moodle for this forum. Open the settings for the Navigation block. Under "On this page," change Visible to No.

I would turn off the search forums feature in the course you're embedding as well.

You might be able to create a custom theme that doesn't include the top navigation. You could use that theme for just this course, even if you have a normal theme for the rest of your site.

Hello Christy,

Thanks for the response. I am finally...finally, getting ready to start the redesign of the Moodle page and putting a theme together for it. Something I have pushed for the last year. But government works at the speed of molasses, in winter, in Antarctica.

If I do the minimize the navigation pane, and the other panes on that page, will it be just for me or everyone else who has access? I thought that only affected my view since I do not have administrator access.

Minimizing the Navigation block affects only your view. Changing the settings to make it invisible following the steps I described will change it for everyone who visits that page. Do you have access to change the settings as explained here? If not, you'll need to get an admin to do it for you.
