Freelance Heroes

Aug 02, 2012

Hi, and welcome to the "Freelance Heroes" thread, a place where Articulate Freelancers help each other. Got a question about freelancing? Or perhaps you have an e-learning asset that may be valuable to those "doin' their own thing"? This is the place to share--to give.

To start things off, I'd like to share a short list of questions that help me figure out what kind of training a potential client wants. (So often they have no idea what they want.) The list is far from exhaustive, but may be of some help. Looking forward to meeting you. --Daniel

Hi Everyone,

I was recently negotiating with a potential client who asked me to create a "quick" marketing piece in Replay like this one from Mike Enders -> Bring life to any objects on your slide. I was also required to embed this piece into a marketing communication using Constant Contact to send out to his mailing list.

Let's just start by saying I did not win the business. Even so, I still think I'm on track with my projections. I was very detailed with my proposal so that it was clear how long each piece of the puzzle would take to accomplish.

While only Mike can really answer the question of how long it took him and/or how much it cost to do it (and I'm hoping he does), I'd be curious to know the community's thoughts on how long it would take you to do it and how much you think it would cost you to pull something like this together.

Thanks in advance!

SP,
Thete is no specific "elearning " rate card. All they are asking is"How
much do you charge?". That is a question only you can answer.
I would suggest that you search for words like price/sell and so on, as
it's been discussed here many times.
Personally, my price varies depending on the budget they have, but that
technique is a sales technique, not an "elearning" technique.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Bruce,

I am agree with you. Because I too did not saw any eLearning rate card before.

I convinced them to do business at price XX per hour. And the problem sorted out.

Also, as you mentioned above these are sells techniques, and being from different background I will need to study these techniques. Do you or anyone here have any references to share about sells and marketing?

Thanks,

S P

Kai ...

Not sure whether this is the correct forum to ask about gap analysis, but here I go.....

I was hired to do a gap analysis at this small company to determine whether their sales folks are well rounded in terms of knowledge, process, task etc. I completed it (phew!!) Now I need to compile a needs analysis report on this. Has anyone done this? If so, are there any templates that I can use to report on my findings? Let's just say they weren't open to my "Infographic" layout/idea. I really don't want to waste  my time on this, but would also like to make the shareholders happy so I can get more funding for my strategic initiatives.

Thanks in advance!

Kai
