Frequency of module maintenance

How often do you review modules to ensure they are up to date?  How long before you should sunset a module and completely replace it?

Hi Karen,

Important questions but I think you are going to get a whole lot of "it depends" answers for this one.  As you might imagine, some content is perishable and requires more frequent updates. Other content (eg company history) is fairly static and might be viable for years.  Of course beyond content there are other reasons to update or sundown a course too.

Perhaps it might be best to make a list and rating scale of the factors involved in the decisioning so the stakeholders can have a clear picture. Quickie example....

On a scale of 1-5 rate the following for each course in the library; with a 1 being minimal need/impact and 5 being maximum need/impact...

  • How much of the current content is now incorrect/out of date?
  • How much new additional information is missing?
  • Are there any truly regulatory/legal considerations for refreshing the course?
  • How important is it to have a "fresh" look/feel?
  • Was the user ratings/feedback of the current version positive?
  • Are there any  navigation/useability/access issues with the current version?
  • Do we expect existing completed learner to retake the course after a refresh?

Bob,

I like your list! That is very helpful. Thank you.

Karen
