Getting content from SME's

Feb 06, 2019

Hi all,

Obviously everyone works in different ways but I wanted to know how you recieve your content from SME's. I've been asked to share a template for an SME to populate, something to look at an initial draft before storyboarding so it just sparked the thought how do others? I don't want to go in to full blown storyboarding at this stage but needs to have some structure. If you have any examples that would be great.

Depending on my relationship with the SME, id say the more info/content the better. If it is an eLearning module, I use PPT, and the SME content dumps on each slide what they want/need to see.

Or I have used a word document with a table, that breaks the slides down, and the SME can use that to organize their thoughts on each section. Like a more detailed flow chart...

Hi Narissa,

I think providing SMEs with a template is a great idea! I've done that in the past and it's been successful as long as the SMEs actually have the time to fill it out. For a lot of projects I worked on, however, that wasn't the case so they just sent over whatever existing content they had (Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, etc) and I would go through it and try to figure out what to include in the course based on the course objectives.

I don't have the template I used anymore unfortunately, so I can't share it with you. That being said, I'm not sure it would've been helpful because it was specific to the kind of course I was creating.

I hope this was helpful! Looking forward to hearing what others have to say about this.
