I use http://recordit.co/ and like it very much.

Tom had a recent post on an animated gif tool he uses: http://blogs.articulate.com/rapid-elearning/how-to-animated-gifs-free/

• Recordit is nice, but you do have to upload and then download. So for secure recording it may not be viable.
• I use SnagIt, too. However, when I did my comparison between Screen2Gif and SnagIt, the file size for SnagIt was considerably larger. Just something to keep in mind.
• You can also use Photoshop if you have it.

Thanks Tom.  Get point about the file size as my drives are fill to bursting!  Sadly no Photoshop, but considering it. 

You can actually create GIFs in Photoshop if you happen to already have it: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/how-to/make-animated-gif.html
