Going rate for developing eLearning content

Jun 21, 2013

I need some advice.

I've been approached to develop custom eLearning content; however, I'm not sure what the going rate is and how to bill since I have only developed content for myself.

What country?

What currency?

What type of course?

What product?

What subject?

What's been done by them?

What will be done by you?

What is their budget?

How flexible is their budget?

What is your margin?

How flexible is your margin?

Are you and the customer in the same country/currency zone?

What's the currency exchange rate fluctuation?

What currency will you be paid in?

What are the bank charges?

Are you prepared to do some "starter" courses as lost leaders or POC?

How do you quote - by the hour, project, day etc.

...and a million other questions.

The going rate is what people are prepared for the value they see in you.

I am a lot lower than some, a lot higher than some - but I sure as hell can sell my value.

That's my going rate - and it varies.

Until you can figure all of this out you probably will not get close.

Have a good read of the huge "Freelance Heroes Thread", most of this is in there.

Hope that helps - it should do.
