Has Interactive Video Changed with Update?

Oct 14, 2016

I have created several interactive videos where the learner clicks an icon, Articulate shows a layer. On the layer I have checked pause baseline. Then they close the layer and the video continues.

A few days ago, after applying Update 11, I created a new interactive video but it does not play the video after closing the layer.

I have compared my two examples and do not see a difference. If I import the new video onto the old slide, it works.

I am attaching the two slides. Let me know if you see what I am doing wrong or is there another issue?

Hi Jeffrey-

The video is auto playing for me. I think the one thing that could be going on is that the video doesn't appear until 4-5 seconds into the timeline.

If you click the button to load the slide layer when the slide first appears, the timeline pauses :01 second into the slide. The video plays, but it takes a few more seconds to appear.

The only difference I spotted between your first and second example is that in your first example, your video starts on Frame 1 while in the new version, your video appears :04 seconds into the slide.

David, thanks for the reply.

The issue I am having is when I close the layer in the new video, the video does not begin playing again as it should.

If I copy the new video onto the slide that was the old video, it works correctly both showing the layer and resuming the timeline when the layer closes.

That is what puzzles me, why does the new version not continue the timeline after I close the layer.

David, I see why you are confused. The first Click Me sign was to be just an example, but I had a trigger there. Unintended consequences of copy and paste! For this example, I deleted that.

The real link comes 57 seconds into the video. The person should click the Click Me object, read the layer, and then the video should continue after they close the layer.

That is the part that is not working in this example. The video does not continue as it should. Yet it works in the example I created months ago.

Thanks.

Thanks for the follow up slide and info, Jeffrey.

I'm able to reproduce your same issue with the latest update: The video doesn't resume playing on the base layer.

As a workaround, you can add an extra trigger to the hide layer button to play the media:

I replaced your video with a few of my own videos and the resume base layer functionality worked as expected. My guess is there's something different about your video that is causing the issue. But that's just my hunch. The devs will figure it out.

I'll show your file to the developers to see if they know what's going on.

If you don't mind, would you submit a case for the issue and reference this forum discussionhttps://www.articulate.com/support/contact/submit.php? If you submit the case the dev team will have your contact info to follow up if necessary.
