Help finding the right solution...

Jul 24, 2013

Hello...

I'm a bit green at this but am looking to update our online learning program. We had it developed in-house but the person who did it left and now we're stuck! I'm wanting us to use something that already exists but am a little unsure how to proceed. I might not be posting this in the right place but hope someone out there has some pearls of wisdom for me!

Basically we have a paid subscription model for our one-year course. This is what it includes:

365 daily teachings (in text format)

A weekly audio teaching

A weekly video teaching

Student formums (two in total - one for general discussion and one for q&a with our tutorial team)

Monthly quiz (basically like a multiple choice test)

We currently average about 500 active subscribers and, as our non-profit organization is in over 25 countries around the world, the subscribers are also from all over. We have translated the content into Spanish and it is currently being translated into both French and Mandarin. So, we'd love to be able to have multilingual options.

Does anyone know of a product that could handle all of this? I really like the look of Absorb but it doesn't seem to have forums (which is a big part of what we want). I also like the look of Canvas but that probably offers much more than we are looking for in that it seems more geared to 'proper' educational establishments.

Really appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks.

Andy

Don't know how much Absorb and Canvas cost, but another alternative you might want to consider is redoing your site with WordPress ... with the right plugins, it can probably do everything you want (and unlike a custom coded solution, an administrative assistant can do the updates and maintenance for the site ... plus WP designers/developers are plentiful).

* LearnDash and Sensei are WP plugins that can do the LMS part including quizzes

* There are several options for forums, depending on how fancy you want to get

* There are many quality themes out there for $100 or less

* The membership/payment part can be done with s2Member, and you can "drip" content

* Multilingual-Press Pro can handle the multiple language switching

* If you want more of a social network implementation, there's BuddyPress
