Help Needed with Triggers from Variables in Storyline

Nov 18, 2013

Hello Everyone,

I am building a scenario where you can choose your responses to a character in a conversation and the character's expressions change based on your responses.  I have created the variable to adjust depending on which choice you pick.  I then added a trigger to change the character's expression (i.e. happy or angry) based on the choice that was made.  I added a reference to the variable to display on the slides and the variable is working properly, yet the characters will not change.

I have been racking my brain trying to figure out why this won't work the way I want it to.  I have looked through the forums and all over the internet and I cannot find the answer to my problem.  I have attached the file for reference.

Thank you in advance!!

Hi Mike,

I just gave a quick look at your file. The problem might be on the layer 1 where the trigger for setting expression equal to 1.01 is below the trigger "show layer". This way, the trigger won't be changed because it won't execute. So if you move the trigger for setting variable up, it should work the way you wanted.

Hi Cheng,

Thank you so much, your recommendation worked!! I cannot believe that the order for one variable was wrong and that was throwing everything out of whack.  I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out!!

Sincerely,

Mike

Mike,

You are more than welcome. I see that the trigger orders on other layers are correct except for layer 1, so you might have just missed ordering the triggers for layer 1. It happens often. Good luck with your project.
