Help with Course Navigation Dependent Upon Completed Layers

Mar 25, 2014

Hello - I am a rookie at eLearning and using Articulate Storyline to build courses. I am having difficulty with the navigation in a Workplace Harassment training I am working on (a basic version of the slide is attached).

I would like for the learner to click on each of two buttons, "Company" and "You" in any order. When the learner clicks "Company",  the "Company Impact" layer with corresponding content displays. When the timeline on the CI layer ends, the "ImpactCOMPANY" variable toggles to True, and a trigger takes the learner back to the base layer. Next, the learner should click on the "You" button, the "EE Impact" layer will show, and when the timeline ends, the "ImpactYOU" variable toggles to True.

I have set up triggers so that the Company and You buttons change to the completed state IF the variables corresponding to their respective layers are equal to true. When this condition is met, the module should advance to the next slide. (I want to make sure the learner views the content on both layers before moving forward.)

Something goes wrong whenever the user tries to click the same button more than once. For example, it works well until the learner clicks Company and then Company again instead of Company and then You (or clicks You and then You again instead of You and then Company).

This is my first time using variables and layers in an interactive format, so I appreciate any help or advice from more experienced developers.

Thanks so much!

Sara

Hi Sara,

Try this. I have the slides with the next button disabled, I also did a version with custom next/prev buttons. I find it easier to create courses with the custom buttons, less messing around with variables

I hope this helps. Here is the steps I followed. http://www.articulate.com/support/storyline/how-to-disable-the-next-button-until-users-finish-interacting-with-a-slide
