Help with designing course

Jun 15, 2015

Hi

I was wondering if some of you could give me some examples of how to dispense content.  I have a few topics where I need to inform our users about a concept(our data product) I know what I need to tell them, but I feel it will be boring.  I do not want to add interaction just for the sake of having interaction.

It's in PPT now and is very dry when the VP gives the lecture.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Amy

Hi Amy. I'm sure the community will chime in with some really great ideas but here are a few things that come to mind:

  1. Have you checked out the E-Learning Examples Hub? There's lots of creative inspiration to be found there...
  2. When content threatens to be dry, I find it's helpful to dig for the story behind the content. In other words, what's the human story behind this data product? It didn't arise from nowhere so someone had to have had a need for it. What problems does it solve? What would life be like without it now? How does understanding this product make learners better at their jobs?  How does this product's existence make a consumer's life easier/happier/better? Try to turn the subject matter on its ear and find that compelling hook that lets you personalize it and make the ideas more tangible.
  3. Finally, there's another thread in this forum on ideas for making dry content more lively. I think you may find some instructional design gold in the comments!

Hope this gets you pointed in the right direction. Give us a shout if we can help with more specifics.
